Pet Nutrition Consultations
Choosing the right food for your pet can feel overwhelming. Between kibble, canned food, raw diets, freeze-dried food, gently cooked meals, toppers, supplements, and ingredient labels, it can be hard to know where to start.
Our Pet Nutrition Consultations are designed to help pet parents feel more confident about their pet’s food and feeding routine. Whether you’re starting from scratch, switching foods, exploring fresh or raw options, or trying to support a specific concern, we’ll help you compare products and build a plan that makes sense for your pet and your household.
At Treats on a Leash, we believe pets are family. Our goal is to provide helpful, practical guidance without pressure or judgment.
What Is a Pet Nutrition Consultation?
A Pet Nutrition Consultation is a one-on-one conversation focused on your pet’s current diet, goals, preferences, and needs.
During the consultation, we can talk through your pet’s food history, current routine, ingredient preferences, budget, lifestyle, and any concerns you’re trying to support. From there, we’ll help you understand your options and recommend products that may be a good fit.
This is especially helpful if you feel stuck, confused by labels, or unsure how to compare foods.
Who Is This For?
A nutrition consultation may be helpful if you:
- Are choosing food for a new puppy or kitten
- Recently adopted a pet
- Want to transition to a higher-quality food
- Are considering raw, frozen, freeze-dried, or gently cooked food
- Have a picky eater
- Have a pet with occasional digestive upset
- Are trying to simplify ingredients
- Want to add moisture or toppers
- Need help comparing brands
- Are overwhelmed by online advice
- Want to better understand what you’re currently feeding
- Need a feeding routine that fits your budget and schedule
Common Topics We Can Help With
Choosing a New Food
We can help you compare kibble, canned food, raw, freeze-dried, gently cooked, and fresh food options. We’ll talk through what matters most for your pet, including life stage, protein preferences, ingredients, texture, storage, and budget.
Food Transitions
Switching foods too quickly can upset some pets’ stomachs. We can help you create a gradual transition plan that makes the change easier.
A typical transition may start with mostly old food and a small amount of new food, then slowly increase the new food over several days.
Picky Eating
Picky pets can be frustrating. We can help you think through flavor, texture, moisture, toppers, feeding routines, and product options that may make mealtime more appealing.
Sensitive Stomachs
For pets with occasional digestive sensitivity, we can discuss simpler recipes, limited ingredient options, probiotics, pumpkin, goat milk, bone broth, and other products that may support digestive health.
Raw, Frozen & Fresh Food
Curious about raw, frozen, freeze-dried, or gently cooked foods? We can explain the differences, storage needs, serving options, transition tips, and ways to use these foods as complete meals or toppers.
Toppers & Meal Boosters
Toppers can be a simple way to add moisture, variety, and excitement to your pet’s bowl. We can help you choose options like bone broth, goat milk, canned food, freeze-dried raw, pumpkin, fresh greens, or meal mixers.
Weight & Portion Guidance
We can help you review feeding guidelines and think through portion sizes, treats, activity level, and meal routines. For medical weight-loss plans or significant weight concerns, we recommend working with your veterinarian.
Supplements & Wellness Support
We can discuss common wellness categories like skin and coat, digestion, joints, dental care, calming support, and seasonal support. We’ll help you compare product types and choose options that fit your pet’s routine.
What to Bring to Your Consultation
To make the most of your consultation, it helps to bring:
- Your pet’s age, breed, and approximate weight
- A photo of your current food bag or ingredient panel
- Current feeding amount and schedule
- Treats, chews, toppers, or supplements your pet currently gets
- Known allergies or sensitivities
- Foods or proteins your pet has liked or disliked
- Any goals or concerns you want to talk through
- Veterinary recommendations, if applicable
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come in. That’s what we’re here for.
What You’ll Leave With
After your consultation, you may leave with:
- A better understanding of your pet’s food options
- Product recommendations based on your goals
- A food transition plan
- Topper or supplement ideas
- A better sense of portions and feeding routines
- Next steps for trying something new
- More confidence in your choices
Our goal is to make feeding your pet feel simpler, not more stressful.
Important Note About Veterinary Care
Our nutrition consultations are designed to provide product education and practical feeding guidance. They are not a replacement for veterinary care, diagnosis, or treatment.
If your pet has a medical condition, sudden symptoms, chronic vomiting or diarrhea, major weight changes, pancreatitis, kidney disease, diabetes, urinary issues, prescription diet needs, or another health concern, please work with your veterinarian.
We’re happy to help support your vet’s recommendations by helping you choose appropriate products when possible.
How Consultations Work
You can stop in and ask questions anytime, but a dedicated consultation gives us more time to focus on your pet’s needs.
Consultations may be helpful for more detailed conversations, especially if you’re comparing several options, transitioning diets, or working through multiple concerns.
